Macro Photography

Macro Photography is a close up photography. The classical defination is that the image projected on the 'film plane' (i.e. film or digital sensors) is close to the same size as the subject.
Here are some examples of a macro shot that I particurlarly like:

My Macro Shots

Natural And Organic Subjects

Here are some edited Macro Shots

I edited this image by making the contrast greater and adding a vignettes. This has made the image more dramatic and bolder.

Before and After

(Settings - F/8, 1/300, ISO 400, Manual White Balance)

Highly Reflective Subject

Here is the set up for my Reflective Image, I used a soft box above and below the subject. For my subject I used a pefume box that was highly reflective making it difficult to light.

(Settings - F/22, 1/15, ISO 200, Auto White Balance)

Location Photography

Sodium Lighting (Street light)
For my street lamp image I photographed the back of a car covered in snow. The sodium light makes the snow appear a yellow colour and brings out the texture of the snow.

(Settings - F/4.5, 1/300, ISO 400, Manual White Balance)

Incandescent Lighting

Incandescent lighting is a regular house hold bulb which gives off a yellow/orange glow.

To show my incandescent lighting I used a household lamp and light my dog showing the effects the colour of the bulb does to even a dark black colour.

(Settings - F/6.7, 1/200, ISO 400, Auto White Balance)

Halogen/Tungsten Lighting (Site Lampwork lamp)

Halogen light is produced by an icandescent filament lamp placed in a quartz capsule containing halogen gas. These lamps radiate white light and are the best type of artificial light for producing holograms that can be viewed with thite light.

For my Halogen lighting I used a garden light with a plant underneath to show the shadow and highlights created by the light.

Purfume Bottle Images

Commercial Product
Set 1
Settings for my 1st Image

Honeycomb Filter

(F.8, 1/180, ISO 200,

Manual White Balance)

The honey comb filter has brought out the texture and colour of the bottle. I think that the shadows casted by the light have made the image appear dramtic. This is my favorite image as it shows the costmetic product clearly.

Set 2

Settings for my 2nd Image:

Soft Box

(F.8,1/180, ISO 200

Manual White Balance)

The soft box has given the image the most equal lighting around the bottle. It shows the blue clear and makes the glass shine. The is a slight shadow on the right which if I had used a reflector would of helpoed prevent this.

Set 3

Settings for my 3rd Image:

Beauty Dish

(F.8, 1/180, ISO 200,
Manual White Balance)

With the beauty dish working alone Ihave found that the image is too bright on one half casting a shadow. The bright lighting does make the bottle look clean and pretty like a costmetic product should.

Set 4

Settings for my 4th image:

Beauty Dish/Soft Box

(F/8, 1/60,ISO - 200,
Manual White Balance)

I found that the beauty dish made deep dramtic shadows around the back and top of the purfume bottle. The soft box lights up the front and inside of the perfume bottle. I think this is a good image but not right to light a cosmetic product.

Camera/Lens Technique

Shutter Speed

We were asked to use a slow shutter speed so capture our image. I have taken am image of the snow fallen. I chose this image because I thought it was like an abstract Image.

(Settings - F/4.5, 1/400, ISO 400, Manual White Balance)

Wide and Telephoto Lenses

This technique is to take am image of the same object but from two different forcal Lenses. In this case I took an image of a farm house in the middle of a field.

(Settings - F/8, 1/250, ISO 400, Auto White Balance)

Depth of Field

A depth of field is the portion of scene that appears sharp in the image. The depth of field depends on the type of camera, aperture and focal type. The depth of field doesn't just change but changes gradually.

Here is my image showing a shallow depth of field showing it before and after editing:

Drop Focus
Drop focus is a narrow band of focus across the image, it also has a shallow depth of field.

(Settings - 1/100, F11, ISO400)

These are the setting for my final image:

Weekly Projects

English Breakfast For our second weekly project we had to represent the word english breakfast with out image. When I first think of an english breakfast I see a big greasy fry up, but I didnt wantto take a typical picture like that. So I decided to show english breakfast as breakfast in bed as everybody loves to relax in bed. I have made the breakfast the main focal and not show the person so that it can be anyone and show that anyone can have there breakfast in bed not just this person.

Time

For our first weekly project we were given the word time and had to represent this word through our image. For my image I took a picture of my mum and grandma to represent different generations. I have put them in matching dressing gowns to show a connection between them as mother nad daughter. Ive blurred my grandma to make it appear as if she isnt there and my mum is looking back over time.
